ENTRY #3: NOAH SORG'S APPROACH TO BEING A CHRISTIAN IN COLLEGE
After his first few weeks at the University of Tampa, first-year student Noah Sorg shares how he stays connected to his faith in Christ while adjusting to college life. He discusses the daily routines that keep him grounded and disciplined, including how prayer, scripture and time with God shape his everyday life. Sorg also explains how he navigates party culture and relationships as a believer and why surrounding himself with a strong Christian community is important to him. As a student at a university known for its active social scene, Sorg shares how his faith influences the choices he makes and the way he approaches college. He explains why he does not worry about many of the circumstances that typically stress college students, knowing that his life is ultimately in God’s hands.

I start every morning by devoting the first roughly hour of my day to Him, spending time in prayer, worship, and getting into the Word.
0:13
And on top of that, I try and make it an effort to talk about Jesus and my faith to other individuals on a daily basis, whether that looks like friends or strangers that I’m meeting, but in general, it looks like spending time in the Word on a daily basis because that’s how I’m able to know who He is more.

I think that people look at God as a ultimate judge, and they take on this perspective that God can’t be loving because He gives us rules.
0:34
When in reality, God gives us what we call rules as actual boundaries because He knows how He uniquely created us, and those boundaries that He gives us actually allows us to flourish.

In high school, I actually did live that life, lived in that culture of partying, and so when I see these other people living in ways that aren’t nearly as holy or righteous, I still express empathy towards them because I know that I did the same thing.
1:13
So why would I judge someone for something that I did myself?
1:16
And I think that that experience I had in high school actually gave me perspective, and it allows me to express my love for others who go through similar trials.
1:28
The past few weeks, I have put myself in various churches on Sunday morning, so that I’m able to kind of see what different churches are good around the area.
1:37
But I know that church isn’t enough, and so I plan on checking out FCA along with Crusades for Christ in the upcoming weeks, and I know that those different communities will allow me to understand who Jesus is, but also find people my age who are like-minded and be able to cultivate relationships.
1:53
Matthew 28:19 says, “Go therefore and, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,” and this verse really sticks with me in college because everyone here is on a different mission.
2:07
Everyone here has a different plan for their life after school, whether it’s becoming an accountant or a journalist or studying history.
2:16
Everyone here is walking with the intention of figuring out what their purpose is in this world and enacting on it.
2:25
Even when we don’t know the answers, Jesus still has a mission on our lives, and so I don’t have to worry about whether I think my major is right for me or not.
2:34
I don’t have to worry about if I might not be in the classes that I want.
2:38
I don’t have to worry about if I can’t figure out what my calling is on this world because he already has a predetermined calling for me.
